Grow wins 300th game at RIT, as baseball splits doubleheader against Utica

RIT Head Coach Rob Grow (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) won his 300th game on Sunday, as the RIT baseball team (12-19. 6-6 Empire 8) split a doubleheader at Utica (5-17, 2-8 Empire 8) on Sunday afternoon.  Utica won game one 6-4 before RIT took game two, 7-2. Grow, in his 17th season at RIT, is 300-278.

In game two, Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.  He also picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete-game four-hitter, allowing just one earned run, while striking out four.

RIT scored three runs in the third and three in the fifth inning. 

Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)
was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Matt Austin (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) and Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) each had a hit and run batted in.

In game one, freshman Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) was 3-for-3 with a run scored.  Dornes and Hughes had two hits.

Senior Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.  He now has 31 RBI this season and 93 for his Tiger career.  Tosh is one RBI short of the RIT career record, held by Jeff Hall '80.

Dornes had five hits on the day.  He is now hitting .361 this season.

Grow has 11 winning seasons as head coach of RIT,
