Tosh's five RBI not enough, as baseball falls at Rochester

Jeremy Tosh drove in a career-best five runs, moving into second place all-time at RIT with 89 RBI.

ROCHESTER, NY –
Senior Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) drove in a career-best five runs, but it was not enough, as the RIT baseball team (9-15) fell to local rival Rochester (20-8) in a single, non-conference contest at Fauver Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Tosh moved into second place all-time at RIT with 89 career RBI, just five behind leader and Hall of Famer Jeff Hall '80.  Tosh has 27 RBI in just 24 games this season.  He also had three hits and scored two runs on the afternoon.

RIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run triple by Tosh, scoring #Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia)# (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg)Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) hit a sacrifice fly to score Tosh.

Rochester responded by scoring six unanswered runs, highlighted by a four-run second to take a 6-3 lead.  RIT scored a run in each of the next three innings, but Rochester scored eight more times in that period to take a 14-6 lead after seven innings.  RIT scored twice in the ninth inning to complete the scoring.

Junior #Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers)# (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) ripped a career-high three hits, while scoring a run for RIT.   Robertson also had three hits  with a pair of runs scored, a stolen base and a run driven in.  Smith and Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) each had two hits.  Smith stole his team-best 17th base in 18 attempts.

Nathan Stein led Rochester, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.  Alex Caghan was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Michael Wexler picked up the win on the mound for Rochester, allowing five runs in six innings.  Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) suffered the loss for RIT.

The Tigers committed four errors.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Brockport to play the Golden Eagles in a double-header starting at 2:30 p.m.
