Baseball drops two at Brandeis

BOSTON, MA -- The RIT baseball team dropped a pair of games at Brandeis University on Saturday. The Tigers dropped game one 7-5 and lost game two 5-1. The losses drop RIT to 2-8 on the season.

In game one, Brandeis jumped out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two in the second. RIT answered with three runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 5-3, but committed five errors.

The Tigers scored all three runs with two outs in the third. Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) scored on a double by #Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg)# (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg). #Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse)# (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) hit a two-run home run, cutting the score to 5-3. RIT added single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Tosh went 2-3 in game on with two RBI and two runs scored. Kernan went 1-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) took the loss in game one. He went six innings allowing three earned runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked only one.

RIT jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two but could not hold on, losing 5-1. The Tigers pounded out eight hits but could only muster one run.

Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) went 2-3 and scored the Tigers lone run. Kernan had one RBI with a sacrifice in the top of the first.

Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) got the start in game two. He went 5 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs on five hits. He struck out one and walked six. #Rory Camardello (Brighton, NY/Brighton)# (Brighton, NY) went 1/3 of an inning in relief for the Tigers.

RIT will begin Empire 8 conference play next weekend when they host Ithaca College. Saturday's douoble-header will begin at 1 pm. Sunday's double-header will get under way at 1 pm.
