WORCESTER, MA --
The RIT (18-10-1, 17-5-1 AHA) men's hockey team scored three goals in the first 8:38 of the second period, including two in the first 1:35, en route to a 6-0 win over Holy Cross (10-14-5, 9-11-3 AHA) in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday night. It's the first shut-out for RIT since December 8, 2007 versus American International and was also the first career shut-out for junior goaltender Jared DeMichiel (Avon, Conn./Chicago Steel) (Avon, CT).

RIT broke open a 1-0 game with three goals in 8:38 of the second period. Cameron Burt (Detroit, Mich./Green Bay Gamblers) (Detroit, MI) started the puck rolling, scoring 11 seconds into the second. He intercepted an attempted break out by Holy Cross and ripped a slap shot from the face-off dot that beat Adam Roy over his right shoulder giving RIT a 2-0 lead.

The line of Brent Alexin (West Seneca, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) (West Seneca, NY), Anton Kharin (Twin Lake, Mich./Bay State Breakers) (Twin Lake, MI) and Stevan Matic (Burnaby, British Columbia/Langley Hornets) (Burnaby, BC) struck for two straight goals, extending the Tigers lead to 4-0.

Alexin scored his fourth of the season 1:24 after Burt's goal on assists from Matic and Kharin.

Kharin tallied his sixth of the season at 8:38 of the second when he tipped home a feed from Matic.

Holy Cross controlled much of the play in the beginning portion of the first but DeMichiel was equal to the task stopping all 13 shots he faced.

His best save came with a little over seven minutes remaining in the first. Rob Forshner fired a wrist shot that looked to be heading for the far post but DeMichiel stuck out his left pad and made the toe save.

RIT opened the scoring at 8:38 of the first period when #Bobby Raymond (Lucknow, Ontario/Owen Sound)# (Lucknow, ON) took a clean face-off win from Burt and used the "spin-o-rama" to get around his defender and to the front of the net where he stuffed home a shot for his fifth goal of the season.

The Tigers struck twice more in the third to salt the game away.

Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/Merritt Centennials) (Burnaby, BC) pinched down from his defensive spot and took a pass from #Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario/Nepean Raiders)# (Nepean, ON), wristing it in for his sixth goal of the season.

Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/Aurora Tigers) (King City, ON) tallied a power play goal with 5:17 remaining in the third, tipping home a shot from Justin Hofstetter (Bright, Ontario/Cambridge Winterhawks) (Bright, ON) giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead.

The Tigers went 1-for-5 on the power play while holding the Crusaders scoreless on all six of their power play chances.

RIT out shot Holy Cross 27-15, holding the Crusaders to nine total shots on goal in the second and third periods combined.

The Tigers have now won 11 straight over the Crusaders, including three this season by a combined score of 16-3.

These same two teams will meet again on Saturday night at 7:05 at the Hart Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
