ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team won its second game of the weekend, defeating Elmira College (6-4-0, 1-2-0 E8) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 4-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Empire 8.
After a scoreless first half, RIT's Dom Coleprete gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Off a free kick,
Chris Somers (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) fired a ball from 30 yards out that Coleprete ran onto and one-timed into the net for his third goal of the season.
Chad Palumbo (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) made it 2-0 RIT in the 60th minute. He scored off a rebound on a shot from
Todd Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich). His shot came right to Palumbo who had an open net to place a shot into.
RIT's defense took care of the rest, allowing just seven shots total, two on net.
Ben Frazier (Westminster, MD/Westminster) picked up his first career out, making two saves.
The Tigers out shot Elmira 20-7. RIT took five corner kicks to just two for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira committed 15 fouls to 11 for RIT.
The Tigers are off until Friday, October 9 when they face Utica College in Empire 8 action. Kick-off is at 7 pm in Utica, New York.
