ONEONTA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (13-8) picked up two dominant wins on Friday at the 2009 Oneonta State Invitational by defeating Lycoming College in three games, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17, and SUNY Purchase in three, 25-7, 25-12, 25-12. The Tigers hit .333, and .396, respectively in the two matches.
Senior middle hitter
Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) slammed a team-best 12 kills to go along with five blocks, while hitting .524. Freshman
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) added eight kills and hit .333 with two aces.
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) hit .357 with six kills and a pair of blocks.
Alli Kamsch (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park),
Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge), and
Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) had three kills each.
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 31 assists and added four kills and three blocks, while
Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) led RIT with nine digs and recorded three service aces.
Elyse St. Amand (Plantsville, CT/Southington) led the squad with 12 digs, while
Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) added seven.
The Tigers hit .396 in the win over SUNY Purchase.
Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) led the squad with 17 assists. Kamsch and
Jess Pike (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) each hit .667 with five kills in six attempts. St. Amand recorded three service aces. RIT slammed 10 service aces in the three games.
The Tigers continue play at the Oneonta State Invitational on Saturday, as they compete against the hosts at 11:30 a.m.
