Tigers win fourth straight conference game

ALFRED, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team won its fifth straight game overall and fourth in a row in Empire 8 play with a 2-1 overtime win at Alfred University on Saturday. The win improves RIT to 7-6-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the Empire 8. The win also vaults the Tigers into a tie with Nazareth for first place in the Empire 8 standings.

RIT out shot Alfred 17-9 and took nine corner kicks to five for the Saxons. The Tigers committed 21 fouls to 12 for Alfred.

Ben Frazier (Westminster, MD/Westminster) picked up the win for RIT, making four saves and allowing one goal. Elliot Thorpe took the loss for Alfred.

The Saxons got on the board first with a goal in the 17th minute. Frankie Mannino scored the Alfred on an assist from Nick Schneider.

RIT equalized early in the second half, scoring in the 46th minute. Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) tied the score with his second goal of the season.

The score remained tied through regulation play and into overtime. Dom Coleprete scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Chris Somers (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport). It was Coleprete's team-leading sixth goal of the season and his third game-winner.

RIT looks to make it six in a row when they host St. John Fisher College on Saturday, October 24 at 12 pm on RIT Field.
