HOBOKEN, NJ -
The RIT baseball team (15-11, 6-4 Empire 8) extended its winning streak to nine games after sweeping Stevens (7-25, 0-11 Empire 8) in an Empire 8 doubleheader on Saturday by a scores of 5-1 and 8-3.  RIT scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning in game two, breaking a 2-2 tie.

In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings.  From there, sophomore pitcher Geoff Dornes (Landisville, PA/Hempfiled) (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) did the rest, allowing just one run and scattering six hits over six innings for his first win of the season.

Senior catcher Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) gave RIT a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run, his second of the season.  Dornes was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored, while Matt George (Walton, NY/Walton) (Walton, NY/Walton) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a run batted in.  George now has 18 stolen bases on the season, two off his season record of 20, set last season.  He has 39 career stolen bases, third all-time at RIT.

RIT exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two, breaking a 2-2 tie en route to an 8-3 win.

Senior Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) drove in George with a single to give RIT a 3-2 lead.  With the bases loaded later in the frame, junior Matt Austin (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) lofted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Dornes, who doubled earlier in the frame.  After a run scored off a Stevens error to make it 5-2 RIT, sophomore Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) ripped a run scoring double to make it 6-2.  freshman Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/LIvonia) (Livonia, NY/Livonia) completed the scoring onslaught with a two-run single to make it 8-2 Tigers.

Junior Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) (Moravia, NY/Moravia) picked up his sixth win of the season, going the distance, allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Dornes scored three runs and ripped two doubles.  Tosh went 3-for-3, while Rodems threw out two would-be Stevens' base-runners.

The same two teams meet again in a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at 12 p.m.
