Women's Swimming and Diving Defeated by Neighboring University of Rochester

The RIT women's swimming and diving team fell in a tough match-up against neighboring University of Rochester this evening. The night ended with Rochester tallying 177 points, RIT racking up a mere 108 and only two first-place finishes.

Junior Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY / Delaware Academy) marked two second-place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke, followed by a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly. She teamed up with fellow swimmers Sara Kucsan (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan ) (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan), Rachel Chapman (Lockport, NY/Lockport ) (Lockport, NY / Lockport) and Angie Palomaki (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY / Victor) to finish the 200-yard freestyle relay in first with a time of 1:42.82.

Palomaki also tallied a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, followed closely by Kucsan. Kucsan met a better fate in the 50-yard freestyle, narrowing missing first place by one-hundreth of a second. At the start of the meet, she teamed up with Palomaki and teammates Rachel Lorenz (Norwich, NY/Norwich) (Oneonta, NY / Norwich) and Emily Rapchick-Weidman (Dansville, NY/Dansville) (Dansville, NY / Dansville) to take second place in the 200-yd medley relay.

Senior Cat Jones (Eden, NY/Eden) (Eden, NY / Eden) fared well in diving, taking home the 1-meter category with 205.85 points and finishing second in the 3-meter with 201.35.

The Tigers are back in action after the holidays, hosting Utica at the Judson Pool Saturday, January 10 at 1 p.m.
