PITTSFORD, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (12-14) split a pair of matches to earn second place honors at the Nazareth Tournament on Saturday afternoon.  The Tigers fell to host Nazareth in three games to open the day, but rebounded by defeating SUNY Brockport in four games.

In the opener against Nazareth, RIT lost by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-19, hitting just .131 in the three games.  Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) and Heidi Little (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the way with eight kills apiece.  Little hit an impressive .538 and added two blocks.  Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) dished out 25 assists in the loss. Dani Liesman (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) chipped in with six kills, six digs and two service aces.

RIT dropped the first game in the match against SUNY Brockport, 25-19, but rebounded to win the final three games, 25-19, 25-22, 25-15.

Little once again led the way with 12 kills and hit .333.  She also chipped in with four blocks.  Boxler dished out 31 assists to go along with five kills and five blocks.  Petko recorded a team-high six blocks, while Laura Mooney (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) had four rejections.

Liesman and Kate Gleason (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

On Friday, the Tigers won both matches in dramatic fashion, using a furious rally to come back from a two games to none hole and defeat Springfield College in five games, then upending Ithaca in a back and forth five-game match.

Petko and Boxler earned All-Tournament Team honors.

RIT is back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to SUNY Geneseo to play the Knights in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
