ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's swimming and diving opened its 2008-09 regular season in style, easily dispatching Alfred University, 141-90 at the Judson Pool on Tuesday evening. RIT won eight events.
Junior
Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) led the way by winning a pair of individual events to go along with a relay event.
Burr took first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.38 by nearly 11 seconds. She also won the 100-fly in :59.89.
The 400-meter relay team of Burr,
Angie Palomaki (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) and
#Coleen Davis (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area)# (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) and
Sara Kucsan (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan ) opened the evening by winning in a time of 4:20.88.
Kucsan won the 100-yard freestyle by just over a second, defeating Palomaki in a time of :56.06.
Palomaki won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.23. Freshmen Rachel Lorenz (Norwich, NY/Norwich) and Emily Rapchick-Weidman (Dansville, NY/Dansville) were also victorious in their first collegiate meets. Lorenz took the 100-backstroke in 1:05.73, while Rapchick-Weidman won the 100-breaststroke in 1:13.42.
Senior diver Cat Jones (Eden, NY/Eden) (Eden, NY/Eden) took the 3-meter diving event with a score of 195.60.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they host SUNY Oswego in a dual meet at 6 p.m.
