ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (9-13) dropped a five-set heartbreaker to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday evening at Clark Gym.  "Real Tigers Dig Pink" night was a great success, as $1,500 was donated to the Side-Out Foundation, which supports breast cancer research.

Close to 500 fans were in attendance to support the Tigers with nearly everyone donning either a pink shirt, pink hair or pink ribbons.  Over 100 women purchased a lock of So. Cap's signature pink hair extensions added to their own locks for a $10 donation put in by stylists from Oggi Domani, a salon in Pittsford.  Several fans purchased pink t-shirts and ribbons as well.  The Tigers sported special pink jerseys for the evening.

Local student-athletes from Greece Athena and Attica High School were in attendance.  Special raffle prizes were drawn between games, with Barnes and Noble at Park Point, Bill Gray's, RIT Alumni Relations, RIT Hockey and the American Cancer Society providing great prizes.  There was also a barbeque sponsored by RIT SAAC and the RIT Tiger Den held before the contest.

SUNY Cortland won the first game, 25-23, before RIT won two straight games, 25-22 and 25-23, before the Red Dragons took game four, 25-13 and 15-11.

Freshman middle hitter Laura Mooney (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) hit .388 with 10 kills, while Kate Gleason (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) recorded 19 digs.  Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) recorded 40 assists, while Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) tallied five blocks.

RIT Head Coach Roger Worsley was disappointed with his team's effort.

"A greater effort needs to be made by everyone on the court, not just a select few," said Worsley.  "Far too many players are going through the motions and that lack of effort is hurting us as a team."

RIT is back in action on Friday at the Nazareth Tournament.  The Tigers play Springfield at 6 p.m. and Ithaca at 8 p.m.
