ROCHESTER, NY – Nine members of the RIT men's lacrosse team were named to the 2015 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American team, which was announced on Tuesday, May 29.
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf),
Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry),
Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell),
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) and
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) were first team selections.
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) was a third team selection, while
Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas), Jay Krzyston and
Patrick Hannigan (Hanover, MA/Hanover) were honorable mention picks.
Aquin played in all 22 games in 2015, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 60 points on 44 goals and 16 assists. Aquin, a three-year captain and three-time All-American, finished his career seventh in scoring with 224 points. He is second all time in program history with 176 career goals and was also a 2015 USILA Scholar All-American. Aquin was a first team All-American in 2014 and a second team selection in 2013. He was the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year and the NCAA Midfielder of the Year in 2014.
Hossack, the 2015 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, started all 22 games this season at long-stick midfield. He led the team with 52 caused turnovers and 122 ground balls. The junior long-stick midfielder has helped RIT's defense hold opponents to 7.91 goals per game. He has also chipped in offensively, finishing eighth on the team in scoring with 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists. Hossack tallied six goals, grabbed seven ground balls, caused three turnovers and won 8-of-13 face-offs on May 3 in the Liberty League title game versus No. 13 Union College, earning Tournament MVP honors. Hossack was an honorable mention All-American in 2014 and was a second team All-Liberty League selection.
Johnston, a 2013 second team and 2014 honorable mention All-American, started all 22 games in net for the Tigers. In 2015, he finished the season with a 21-1 record, an 8.94 goals against average and a .571 save percentage. Johnston posted double-digit saves 10 times, and tied his career-high with 19 saves versus Stevenson, Middlebury, and St. Lawrence. He finished his career at RIT the all time leader in wins at RIT with 56 and was a remarkable 56-5 in his career as a Tiger.
Lee, the 2014 Liberty League Rookie and 2015 Offensive Player of the Year, led the team in scoring with 98 points on 60 goals and 38 assists. He scored two or more goals 19 games, including five goals in wins versus Clarkson and Stevenson. Lee tallied a season high eight points on five goals and three assists versus Stevenson to open the season. He has scored at least one point in 40-of-41 career games, and currently sits 14th all time in scoring at RIT with 172 career points on 107 goals and 65 assists. Lee's 60 goals are sixth most in a season at RIT, while his 98 points are second best in one year at the university. He was also a 2014 USILA third team All-American.
Warren, a 2015 USILA Scholar All-American selection, finished second on the team in scoring with 81 points on 47 goals and 34 assists. He finished his career fifth all time in scoring at RIT with 236 career points on 125 goals and 111 assists. Warren tallied 11 points in the Liberty League Tournament, helping RIT win its fourth straight conference title. In four NCAA Tournament games, Warren tallied 13 points on eight goals and five assists. He tallied three goals and added an assist in the National Semifinals versus Tufts. Warren was a 2014 second team All-American.
Kiesa, a 2014 second team All-Liberty League and a honorable mention USILA All-American selection, played in all 22 games in 2015. He was third on the team in scoring with 73 points on 45 goals and 28 assists. He tallied a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists versus SUNY Cortland in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Kiesa scored two or more goals 13 times, including six goals versus Cortland in the NCAA Tournament. He finishes tenth all time in scoring at RIT with 190 points on 108 goals and 82 assists.
Gillies, 2015 USILA Scholar All-American, excelled for RIT on both the defensive and offensive ends of the field in 2015. The senior midfielder played in all 22 games, finishing sixth on the team in scoring with 53 points on 11 goals and a team-best 42 assists. He finished second on the team with 87 ground balls and was tied for fifth with 14 caused turnovers. Gillies tallied season-high six points versus Rensselaer on April 4 and Cortland on March 11. He tallied 13 multiple-point games and had seven points, nine ground balls and three caused turnovers in two Liberty League Tournament contests. In four NCAA Tournament games, Gillies tallied seven points on two goals and five assists and 12 ground balls.
Hannigan started 21games this season for the Tigers in 2015. The sophomore defenseman helped RIT's defense hold opponents to 7.91 goals per. Hannigan was second on the team with 25 caused turnovers and grabbed 46 ground balls on the season. Hannigan caused five turnovers and had seven ground balls helping RIT to its fourth straight Liberty League championship. In four NCAA Tournament games, Hannigan dished out an assist, grabbed 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers. It is Hannigan's first All-American honor.
Krzyston, a junior defenseman, started 20 games this season for the Tigers. He helped RIT's defense hold opponents to 7.91 goals per game. Krzyston was third on the team with 15 caused turnovers and grabbed 32 ground balls. Krzyston caused two turnovers and had five ground balls helping RIT to its fourth straight Liberty League championship, while causing six turnovers and grabbing six ground balls in four NCAA Tournament games.
RIT finished the season with a 21-1 record, advancing to the NCAA Semifinals for the fourth time in five years. The Tigers ended the season with school records for 21 wins, 382 goals scored, and 573 points.
