Men's Lacrosse advances to national championship with 16-12 win at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME – RIT junior David Charney scored a career-high five goals to lead the No. 10 Tigers to a 16-12 win over No. 2 Bowdoin in the Semifinal of the NCAA Tournament, Saturday.
 
Sophomore attack Ryan Sanders scored four goals, and junior attack Erich Acton scored two goals and had two assists. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Langille scored two goals and senior Ethan Harkins finished with a goal and two assists. Senior attack Tyson Allison scored two goals and an assist and first year midfielder Evan Lyon had two assists.
 
Junior defenseman Joe Holenstein caused three turnovers and senior defenseman Alexander Chairs and senior defensive midfielder Cole Teeple each caused two turnovers. First year face-off specialist Philip Minardo won 8-of-14 draws and led RIT with eight ground balls. Holenstein and first year defensive midfielder Anthony DeRosa each had three ground balls. Senior goalie Alex Zborowski made seven saves for the Tigers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Langille scored early in the first quarter to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • Hudson Greene and Sam Raye-Steiner tallied back-to-back goals to give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead with 9:39 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Sanders scored to tie the game 2-2.
  • Charney scored back-to-back goals, including one with three seconds remaining in the first to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
  • Bowdoin's Casey Ryan scored early in the second quarter to cut RIT's lead to 4-3.
  • The Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking a 7-3 lead on Sanders' goal with 11:08 to play in the second quarter.
  • Raye-Steiner scored with 5:37 to play to cut the deficit to 7-4.
  • Sanders scored with 4:15 to play in the half to give the Tigers an 8-4 lead.
  • Harkins scored to give RIT a 9-4 lead and Allison scored a man-up goal with 53 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 10-4 halftime lead.
  • Allison scored a man-up goal early in the third quarter to extend RIT's lead to 11-4.
  • Greene and Raye-Steiner tallied back-to-back goals to cut the Tiger's lead to 11-6.
  • Acton scored twice in a four-goal RIT run that gave RIT a 15-6 lead.
  • Berry scored with five seconds remaining in the third quarter to cut the Bowdoin deficit to 15-7.
  • The Polar Bears scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, cutting RIT's lead to 15-10 on Raye-Steiner's fifth goal of the game with 9:03 to play.
  • Sanders scored a man-up goal with 5:53 to play to give RIT a 16-10 lead.
  • Ryan scored a pair of late goals to make it a 16-12 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot Bowdoin 43-31, including 25 on target.
  • The Tigers went 16-of-19 on clearing attempts.
  • RIT won 16-of-32 face-offs and had 26 ground balls.
  • It will be RIT's sixth appearance in the NCAA National Championship  game and the first since 2024.
  • This is RIT's 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament winning back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022.
