ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at home to Alfred State, 13-1, Thursday afternoon at the RIT Baseball Complex.
The visiting Pioneers used a pair of big innings to pull away, while RIT was limited to four hits in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred State jumped out to an early lead with a two-run first inning, highlighted by a leadoff home run.
- RIT answered in the bottom of the second as senior Charlie Slaymaker led off the frame with a solo home run to left field to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Pioneers added a run in the second and two more in the fifth to extend their advantage to 5-1.
- The visitors broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning, capitalizing on a pair of home runs and multiple walks.
- Alfred State tacked on two additional runs in the seventh to account for the final margin.
GAME NOTES
- Charlie Slaymaker went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, accounting for RIT's lone run of the game.
- Senior Roberto Reade finished 1-for-3 with a double while senior Trent Rapp added a single for the Tigers.
- Graham Smith, a junior, started on the mound for RIT, working three innings, while Nolan Bonnell, Colin Spidal, and James Kelly combined in relief.
- RIT recorded four hits on the afternoon and committed two errors.
- Alfred State totaled 13 runs on 11 hits, including three home runs.
- RIT moves to 12-11 overall with the loss.
