Baseball takes two against Bard, 11-2, 7-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep against Bard on Saturday, winning 11-2 before closing the day with a 7-4 victory.
 
GAME ONE (RIT 11, Bard 2)
  • RIT opened the scoring in the first inning as senior Jackson Rusiecki doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by senior Jarin Moses.
  • The Tigers added a run in the second inning and regained the lead in the fourth after Bard tied the game on a two-run home run.
  • Evan Kurtz, a junior, drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth with an RBI double.
  • RIT broke the game open with an eight-run seventh inning as senior Trent Rapp launched two home runs in the frame, finishing the game 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
  • Sophomore Zachary Meehl added a three-run home run during the seventh-inning surge.
  • Graduate student Dylan Joseph earned the win in relief, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out seven.
 
GAME TWO (RIT 7, Bard 4)
  • RIT once again scored in the first inning, taking an early lead.
  • The Tigers powered their offense with four home runs in the game.
  • Rusiecki homered to lead off the scoring, while Trent Rapp added a two-run shot.
  • Graduate student Hayes Waddell and junior Mikey Zacher also went deep for RIT.
  • Senior Jack Luensmann picked up the win on the mound, striking out nine over five innings, with sophomore Owen Fisher earning the save by closing out the final four innings.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT outscored Bard, 18-6, across the doubleheader.
  • Rapp combined for three home runs and six RBIs on the day.
  • Rusiecki reached base multiple times and homered in game two.
  • Joseph and Fisher combined for nine scoreless innings of relief across the two games.
  • RIT improves to 14-11 overall and 8-3 in Liberty League play.
