ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT baseball rolled to an 18-1 win over Bard to pick up the three-game series sweep at the RIT Baseball Complex, Sunday.
The Tigers broke the game open with an 11-run sixth inning and finished with 17 hits in the seven-inning contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bard scored a run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly, but RIT answered immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- Senior Roberto Reade drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly before graduate student Hayes Waddell ripped an RBI triple. Senior Charlie Slaymaker and junior Evan Kurtz followed with RBI singles to make it 4-1.
- RIT added to the lead in the second on a sacrifice fly from Waddell.
- The Tigers pushed across two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by junior Mikey Zacher and an RBI single from senior Trent Rapp.
- RIT erupted for 11 runs in the sixth, sending 15 batters to the plate.
- Zacher highlighted the inning with a grand slam to left-center, while senior Jackson Rusiecki followed with a solo home run.
- Senior Jarin Moses and Waddell added two-run homers in the frame, and junior Dewey Rautzhan and sophomore Zachary Meehl each delivered RBI hits.
GAME NOTES
- RIT finished with 18 runs on 17 hits and drew 11 walks.
- Zacher went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, five RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.
- Waddell was 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and four RBIs as Rusiecki went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI.
- Slaymaker finished 3-for-4 with a double, four runs scored, and an RBI.
- Moses added a two-run home run and drove in two.
- Senior Liam Miller earned the win on the mound, working 5.2 innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits with seven strikeouts.
- Joseph Wozny and James Kelly combined to finish off the final 1.1 innings without allowing a run.
- The Tigers improved to 15-11 overall and 9-3 in Liberty League play.
