ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep against Hobart, Saturday, at the RIT Baseball Complex, winning game one, 8-5, before taking game two, 13-7.
GAME ONE – RIT 8, Hobart 5
- RIT struck first in the opening inning when senior Jackson Rusiecki led off the game with a solo home run to left field.
- The Tigers added two more runs on the second inning when senior Charlie Slaymaker and junior Mikey Zacher each hit solo shots over the fence to make it a 3-0 lead.
- Hobart got on the board in the fourth inning before Zacher hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to bring in senior Roberto Reade.
- RIT scored two more runs in the sixth inning to make it an 8-1 lead.
- The Statesmen tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to cut the RIT lead to four.
- Reliever Ryan Merkov closed the game, getting the final three outs for the Tigers.
GAME TWO – RIT 13, Hobart 7
- RIT jumped out early again, when Moses hit an inside-the-park home run that also brought in senior Trent Rapp.
- In the second inning, Slaymaker made it 3-0 after advancing to home on a wild pitch.
- Hobart cut into the lead with single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
- The Tigers broke the game open in the sixth inning with a grand slam from Moses.
- Hobart put four runs on the scoreboard in the eighth, but RIT closed the door in the ninth when graduate student Joeseph Wozney struck out three batters.
- Sophomore Ryan Moran picked up the win, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just one run.
- Moses finished the game 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.
GAME NOTES
- RIT hit seven home runs across the doubleheader and now has a league-high 39 home runs this season.
- Rusiecki, Slaymaker, Zacher, and Reade each homered in the sweep.
- Moses went a combined 6-for-9 with three home runs and eight RBIs on the day.
- The RIT pitching staff recorded 14 strikeouts across the two games.
- The Tigers improved to 17-11 overall and 11-3 in Liberty League play.
- Friday's first game of the series was postponed due to weather. A make-up date is to be determined.
