ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT baseball swept Rochester in a Liberty League doubleheader, Friday. The Tigers opened the day with an 11-7 victory before securing the sweep with a 4-3 win in game two.
Following game two, the departing seniors for RIT were recognized in a post-game ceremony.
GAME ONE – RIT 11, Rochester 7
- Rochester scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but RIT answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half to even the score.
- The Tigers took control with a four-run third inning, highlighted by RBI hits from senior Jarin Moses and junior Evan Kurtz, along with a two-run double from senior Charlie Slaymaker.
- RIT extended its lead with three runs in the fifth inning to go up 9-3.
- The Tigers added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings to build an 11-3 advantage.
- Rochester mounted a four-run rally in the ninth, but RIT closed out the win.
- Ryan Moran earned the win after pitching the first five innings, improving to 5-0 on the season.
GAME TWO – RIT 4, Rochester 3
- Rit opened the scoring in the second inning when Slaymaker drove in graduate student Hayes Waddell with a double to right center.
- Later in the inning, Kulp grounded out to third, allowing Slaymaker to cross home plate.
- RIT pushed its lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single from senior Trent Rapp.
- Rochester answered with three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one.
- Senior Jack Luensmann worked 6.2 innings on the mound, and graduate student Dylan Joseph pitched the final 2.1 innings to secure the victory.
- Joseph was credited with the win to improve to 5-0.
GAME NOTES
- RIT totaled 15 runs on 23 hits across the doubleheader.
- The Tigers improved to 19-11 overall and 13-3 in Liberty League play.
