Women's Basketball tops St. Lawrence, 71-49

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's basketball team defeated St. Lawrence, 71–49, Saturday afternoon to extend their win streak to eight games.
 
The Tigers led 18–8 after the first quarter and stayed in control throughout, leading by as much as 26 points late in the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT opened the game on a 15–2 run, fueled by early jumpers from junior guard Maddy Ramsgard and back-to-back layups by junior forward Faye Kaplinski.
  • Sophomore guard Caroline Henderson's three-pointer at 4:03 of the first quarter pushed the Tigers' lead to 15–4.
  • RIT outscored St. Lawrence 20–15 in the third quarter, highlighted by a 7–0 stretch that included layups from Kaplinski and graduate student forward Sydney Pearson and a Henderson three.
  • The Tigers held the Saints to 1-of-5 shooting to start the fourth quarter and used a Henderson triple and a three-pointer from graduate student guard Hannah Durand to extend the lead to 67–41.
  • First-year forward Caroline Smith's put-back with 38 seconds left capped the 22‑point victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ramsgard led RIT with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added four assists and three steals.
  • Henderson finished with 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
  • Kaplinski recorded 12 points and nine rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.
  • RIT shot 28-of-61 from the floor (45.9%), including 7-of-20 from three.
  • The Tigers held a 47–31 rebounding advantage and scored 30 points in the paint.
  • RIT forced 12 turnovers and tallied nine steals and three blocks.
  • The Tigers improved to 15–6 overall and 12–2 in Liberty League play.
