Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey falls, 4-3, to Bentley on Senior Night

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Hockey Team fell, 4-2, to Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) rival Bentley in the final regular season home game of the season.

RIT opened a 1-0 lead after the first period, but the Falcons outscored the Tigers, 4-1, in the second for what proved to be a decisive lead. RIT scored a 6-on-5 goal with 49.0 left in regulation but couldn't find the equalizer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RIT got on the board 2:25 into the game. Sophomore forward Mathieu Cobetto-Roy worked a puck around the boards to senior forward Simon Isabelle behind the right post. Isabelle hit junior forward Christian Catalano for a one-timer under goaltender Lukas Swedin's glove.

Bentley scored the next three goals, starting 49 seconds into the second period after Alex Leonard intercepted a pass in the defensive zone and created a two-on-one break with a long outlet pass. Stephen Castagna took a shot from the left faceoff circle that redirected off a Tiger defenseman's skate and under sophomore goaltender Jakub Krbecek.

Bentley took the lead with a power-play goal at 7:05. Krbecek fought off two shots during a flurry, but David Helledy grabbed a puck at the right point and fed Chase Davis in the left faceoff circle for a shot that scored through a crowd in front of Krbecek.

Bentley built a 3-1 lead at 11:06 after a drive by Ryan Upson from the right point rebounded off Krbeck to Arol Merritt in front of the crease for a short finish.

RIT notched a power-play goal to pull back within one at 14:20. A blast by senior defenseman Xavier Lapointe from the point rebounded out to first-year forward Evan Konyen at the top of the left faceoff circle. Konyen slid a puck back to Lapointe the right faceoff circle for a one-timer inside the right post.

Bentley retook a 4-2 lead with 1:58 left in the period. Kellan Hjarttarson won an offensive zone faceoff back to Jake Black, who skated into the slot and whipped a wrist shot over Krbecek's stick.

RIT got one back in the final minute of the third. Isabelle won and offensive zone faceoff back to Lapointe, who took a shot from the left point that Swedin saved in front of the left post. Isabelle jammed a rebound off Swedin that deflected to first-year forward William Moore outside the opposite post for a short finish.
