SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball fell to Union in overtime, 94-90, Tuesday evening. The Tigers rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to force overtime, but Union held on in the extra period to remain unbeaten in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half saw the score tied six times in a back-and-forth game before Union headed into the break with a 44-41 lead.
- Trailing 62-53 midway through the second half, the visiting Tigers used a 24-11 run to take a 77-73 lead with 4:07 remaining.
- Junior guard Zac Ditzel hit a clutch three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation to put RIT ahead 82-79, but Union's Tanner Tedesco answered with a buzzer-beating three to force overtime.
- In the extra session, the Garnet Chargers converted all 10 of their free-throw attempts to secure the win despite two late threes from Ditzel.
GAME NOTES
- Ditzel led RIT with a season-high 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
- Nolan Smith, a junior forward, added a season-high 16 points and five rebounds before fouling out.
- Sophomore guard Mushin Muhammad recorded his first double-double of the campaign with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- Junior guard Brody Brown chipped in 12 points and a team-high five assists.
- RIT shot 47.7 percent from the field (31-of-65) and 54.2 percent from three (13-of-24).
- The Tigers drop to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in Liberty League play.
