Men’s Basketball suffers setback against Vassar, 73-64

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team fell at home to Vassar, 73-64, Friday evening.
 
The Tigers trailed 35-22 at halftime and mounted a strong second-half push, outscoring the Brewers 42-38, but were unable to overcome the early deficit. Graduate student forward Josiah Turner led all scorers with a career-high 31 points for RIT.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar opened the game with a 10-2 run over the first five minutes, setting the tone for an early lead they never relinquished.
  • The Brewers used a 13-4 surge midway through the first half to extend their advantage to double digits and carried a 35-22 lead into halftime.
  • Early in the second half, RIT forced a pair of turnovers in a span of 90 seconds, sparking a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to single digits.
  • With 6:40 remaining, junior guard Zac Ditzel's layup brought the Tigers within six (60-54), their closest margin since the opening minutes.
  • Vassar responded with back-to-back baskets and converted four free throws in the final minute to secure the 73-64 win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Turner finished going 12-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. The forward also converted 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in addition to grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out four assists.
  • Ditzel added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
