ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The RIT women's basketball team earned a 61-42 win over Bard, Saturday afternoon. The Tigers jumped out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, holding the Raptors to just seven points in the final period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened the game on an 8-3 run, capped by a layup from senior guard Erin DiPaola and a three-pointer from sophomore guard Caroline Henderson.
- Henderson hit two of her six three-pointers in the second quarter, to help the visiting Tigers build a 38-24 halftime lead.
- A fast-break layup by junior guard Maddy Ramsgard extended RIT's lead early in the third quarter to give the Tigers a 40-24 lead.
- The Tigers' defense held Bard to 1-of-11 shooting in the fourth quarter while leading by as much as 22 points with less than four minutes to play.
GAME NOTES
- All of Henderson's 18 points came from beyond the arc, finishing the game going 6-of-14 from three-point range.
- Junior forward Faye Kaplinski led the visitors on the boards with 10 rebounds as well as scoring seven points and notching three assists.
- RIT shot 39 percent (24-for-61) from the floor and 28.6 percent(8-for-28) from three-point range.
- RIT scored 30 points in the paint and added 22 second-chance points.
- The Tigers forced 14 Bard turnovers and tallied eight steals.
- The win puts RIT at 2-0 in the Liberty League and 5-3 overall.
