GENESEO, N.Y. – The RIT women's basketball team narrowly fell to Geneseo, 64-63, Saturday. The visiting Tigers rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half and took a late lead, but a jumper by the Knights in the final seconds sealed the outcome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo jumped out to a 22-14 lead after the first quarter, fueled by four three-pointers.
- RIT trailed 38-28 at halftime but cut the deficit to seven entering the fourth after a strong third quarter.
- Sophomore guard Caroline Henderson hit a three-pointer with 3:03 left to give RIT a 61-58 lead.
- Junior guard Maddy Ramsgard scored a jumper with 1:22 remaining to put RIT back on top, 63-62.
- Geneseo's Grace Galgano hit the game-winning jumper with seven seconds left.
- RIT had a final shot but couldn't get the shot to fall.
GAME NOTES
- Henderson led the Tigers with a game-high 24 points, including 5-of-10 from three-point range, and added seven rebounds.
- Ramsgard posted a double-double for the second consecutive game with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
- Junior forward Faye Kaplinski chipped in 11 points, going 4-of-7 from the field.
- Erin DiPaola, a senior guard, dished out a team-high five assists to go along with four points.
- RIT shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor and 40 percent (6-of-15) from beyond the arc.
- Geneseo entered the season ranked No. 22 in the d3hoops.com preseason poll.
- The setback puts RIT at 3-2 through five games.
