Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey upended in OT by Niagara, 2-1

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Hockey fell, 2-1, in overtime at Niagara in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play, Tuesday.

RIT first-year forward Evan Konyen scored the lone goal of the first period, before the Purple Eagles drew even early in the second. Following a scoreless third, Niagara found the game-winner 2:26 into OT.

Sophomore goaltender Jakub Krbecek finished the night with 20 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RIT opened the scoring at 16:26 of the first. First-year forward William Moore sent a puck off the goal line through the right faceoff circle that first-year forward Zach Wigle controlled off a Niagara player in the right faceoff circle. Wigle pivoted and fired a shot from the right point that Konyen redirected over Purple Eagle goaltender Tomas Anderson from the slot.

Niagara evened the score 2:02 into the second after Tyson Zimmer tipped a feed from Grayson Dietrich inside the right post to finish an odd-man rush off a Tiger neutral zone turnover.

Ethan Lund scored the overtime game winner, skating a puck through the neutral zone and snapping a shot from the right faceoff circle that deflected off a RIT defender's stick over Krbecek, far post.

COACH THOMAS SAID
"I hated our second period, but that may have been our best third period of the year. Sometimes it goes that way. We knew this was going to be a tough game—a Tuesday night after a long weekend in the middle of a long road stretch—and it proved to be.

"Our execution needed to be better, but the good news is we still earned a big conference point."

WHAT'S NEXT
RIT continues a six-game road trip Friday (Nov. 21) at Bentley. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
