BOSTON – The RIT women's basketball defeated Stevens, 59-39, in the opening game of the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament, Saturday. The Tigers overcame a slow start, scoring just two points in the first quarter before surging ahead with a dominant second half to secure the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT trailed 11-2 after the first quarter but responded with a 15-point second quarter to cut the deficit to 20-17 at halftime.
- The Tigers exploded for 24 points in the third quarter, taking a 41-26 lead into the final frame.
- Sophomore guard Caroline Henderson hit back-to-back three-pointers in the third quarter to give RIT its first lead, sparking a 10-0 run while holding Stevens to just six points in the quarter.
GAME NOTES
- Henderson led RIT with 13 points and five rebounds.
- Senior guard Erin DiPaola scored 11 points, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and added three steals.
- Junior guard Maddy Ramsgard added 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
- RIT's defense forced 21 turnovers and recorded 12 steals, including three each from DiPaola and Maddy Ramsgard.
- RIT shot 36 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.
- The Tigers outrebounded Stevens 41-33 and scored 24 points in the paint.
- With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-1 on the season.
