Women's Basketball falls at Vassar in OT, 85-76

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The RIT women's basketball team fell in overtime, 85-76, in a closely contested game at Vassar, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trailing Vassar, by two points at the end of the first quarter, the Tigers used an 8-2 run to take a 26-22 lead with 5:19 left in the half.
  • The Brewers took the lead back early in the third when Tova Geib converted a pair of free throws with a little over a minute into the second half.  
  • Tied at 59, RIT scored seven points in a span of 1:21 in the fourth quarter to take a seven-point lead. The quick run was capped by a three-point shot from senior guard Kaitlyn Bockelman which put RIT up 66-59 with 4:03 left to play.
  • The Brewers battled back, taking the lead with a layup and an and-1 play from Sierra McDermed with 1:11 on the clock.
  • Bockelman ties the game at 70 after making the front end of a pair of free throws with 53 seconds remaining.
  • With seconds on the clock, first-year guard Caroline Henderson put up a baseline jumper that rimmed out, sending the game into overtime.
  • In the extra session, the Brewers hit 4-of-5 shots from the field while limiting RIT to six points to take the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard paced RIT with a team-high 20 points after shooting 62.5 percent from the field to go along with five assists and a season-best 11 rebounds.
  • Bockelman added 15 points as Kaplinski chipped in 14 points. In all, five players scored in double figures for the Tigers.
  • RIT received 14 points from the bench while holding Vassar's bench scoreless.
  • The loss puts the Tigers at 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the Liberty League.
