Women's Basketball defeats William Smith, 77-75

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior guard Emma Waite scores a season-high 19 points and a career-high 12 assists as the women's basketball team defeats William Smith, 77-75, Friday. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Junior guard Kaitlyn Bockelman opens up the Tigers' scoring, making a driving layup at the 8:11 mark in the first quarter, tying the score 2-2 
  • Waite makes a three-pointer with 2:15 left in the quarter, cutting William Smith's lead to three 
  • The Herons take a 22-18 lead after the first quarter 
  • First-year Faye Kaplinski starts the second quarter with a driving layup, putting the Tigers within two points at the 9:47 mark 
  • Waite makes a mid-range jumper to close out the half and tie the score at 43 
  • Two free throws from sophomore guard Ansley Orrell at 9:13 in the third, gives the Tigers a 45-43 lead, their first of the game  
  •  RIT remains in control for the rest of the quarter, taking a 60-53 lead going into the fourth 
  • William Smith starts the fourth quarter on a 8-1 scoring run, tying the game at 61 with 6:37 remaining in the game 
  • Sophomore guard Erin DiPaola makes two free throws, giving RIT a 71-66 advantage with three minutes left  
  • A minute later, first-year guard Ella Wilson makes a three-pointer, putting the Tigers up by six 
  • With four seconds left on the clock junior forward Sonya Shivok makes two free throws, securing a victory for the Tigers 
 GAME NOTES 
  • The RIT bench outscored William Smith's bench 48-26 
  • Waite was 7-for-8 (87.5%) from the free throw line 
  • The Tigers scored 25 points off turnovers

The Tigers host Liberty League opponent RPI tomorrow, with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Clark Gymnasium.
