Rowing honors student-athletes with end-of-year awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The men's and women's rowing teams honored some of their top student-athletes with end-of year-awards.

Ben Clements and Velvet Howland were awarded the Gosnell Seat Awards. The award is given each year to a senior who demonstrates work ethic, teamwork, and pride in RIT crew.

Sophomore Alex Nenadic and first-year Ellen Shepard won the Frey Footplate Award. The award goes to athletes with grit and commitment to technique to make their boat faster.

Finally, the Briggs Oar Handle Award was given to first-years Julia Gill and Jarid Whitten. The award goes to freshmen or novices who are dedicated to improvement and moving RIT crew forward.

The Tigers compete on Friday at the National Invitational Rowing Championships, with events set to start at 8:00 A.M.
