ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Four RIT men's hockey players were named First-Team All-Atlantic Hockey, Monday. Sophomore forward
Carter Wilkie, senior defenseman
Gianfranco Cassaro, junior defenseman
Aiden Hansen-Bukata and sophomore goaltender
Tommy Scarfone were recognized after leading the Tigers to the Atlantic Hockey regular-season championship and the top seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
Wilkie finished the regular season leading Atlantic Hockey and tied for 15th nationally with 37 points while tying for 23rd nationally and first in the conference with 1.09 points per game. He was also tied for seventh in the league with 13 goals and tied for third with 24 assists.
- The Hobey Baker Award nominee finished the regular season ranked seventh in the country with 403 faceoff wins and was one of only eight players with over 400. He also won 52.8 percent of his draws.
- He is only the 11th player in RIT's Division I era to score 30 points in multiple seasons after also totaling 30 points (13 goals/17 assists) as a first-year on his way to Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team honors.
- Voted the AHA Co-Preseason Player of the Year, Wilkie was a two-time Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month (November, January) and four-time Player of the Week honoree this season.
- Wilkie compiled 14 goals and 26 assists to tie for 17th nationally with 40 points and finish as only the 11th Division I-era Tiger to hit the 40-point plateau in a season.
Cassaro finished the regular season tied for first among the nation's defensemen with 12 goals to go along with 15 assists for 27 points.
- The Hobey Baker Award nominee broke the Tigers' D1-era single-season record for goals by a defenseman, surpassing the 11 notched by Chris Saracino (2012-13), Dan Ringwald (2009-10) and Chris Haltgin (2009-10).
- He won a league-best four Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week citations and was named the October Defensive Player of the Month.
- Cassaro scored the overtime game-winning goal and added two assists in the Tigers' series-clinching 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals. He also notched a goal and an assist in the 4-3 overtime victory opposite Holy Cross during the semifinal series.
- Cassaro ended the campaign first nationally among defensemen with 14 goals and tied for sixth with 32 points
Hansen-Bukata finished the regular season tied for fifth nationally with 0.88 assists per game and tied for ninth with 28 assists.
- He notched a league-best 23 assists in conference play during the regular season while leading all defensemen with 25 points.
- Hansen-Bukata notched two assists and blocked four shots in the Tigers' 4-3 OT win over Holy Cross in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Semifinals.
- He finished the campaign ranked 10th nationally with 30 assists and tied for sixth nationally among defensemen with 32 points.
- Hansen-Bukata was the first Tiger to log 30 assists in a season since Josh Mitchell in 2015-16 and was the 28th RIT player to eclipse 30 points in a season.
- He also ended the season 12th nationally with 69 blocked shots, including a career-high seven in the 4-3 win at Holy Cross (Jan. 27) during the regular season.
Scarfone finished the regular season tied for seventh nationally in wins with a 19-9-1 record and was 14th with a .921 save percentage. He also led Atlantic Hockey with 28.17 saves per game.
- In 23 Atlantic Hockey games, Scarfone finished 16-6-1 with a 2.11 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and 27.22 saves per game.
- Named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week a league-high four times this season he was also voted the Goaltender of the Month for January.
- A Hobey Baker Award nominee, Scarfone completed the campaign tied for fourth nationally in wins with a 22-11-1 record and tied for 15th with a .918 save percentage.
- Scarfone broke the Tigers' Division I-era single-season program record with 934 saves, while his 22 wins were the second-highest single-season mark.
RIT finished the 2022-23 season with a 25-13-1 record, including an 18-7-1 Atlantic Hockey mark to win the inaugural Robert DeGregorio Trophy and its first regular-season championship since 2011. Seeded first for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament, the Tigers swept Mercyhurst in the best-of-three quarterfinal series, before falling to Holy Cross in three games in the semifinals to wrap up the second-winningest Division I-era campaign in program history.
