BUFFALO, N.Y. – RIT grad student forward
Kobe Walker and senior forward
Calvon Boots each scored a goal, but it was visiting Canisius earning a 3-2 OT win in Atlantic Hockey play, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT got on the board at the 3:10 mark of the first. Canisius took a shot on the RIT net that ricocheted off the end boards out to junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata on the right half boards. Hansen-Bukata flipped an outlet pass to a streaking Boots in the neutral zone, who beat Golden Griffins goaltender Jacob Barczewski with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle, far post.
- Canisius answered with 14:34 on the clock after J.D. Pogue cleaned up a short deflection off an RIT defenseman in front on a power-play shot from the point by David Melaragni.
- RIT retook the lead with 1:53 left in the period. Senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro wristed a shot from the right point that deflected off Barczewski's pads to the left faceoff circle. First-year forward Evan Miller jumped on the loose puck and spun toward the endline to slip a pass through a crowd on the crease to Walker for a dunk inside the right post.
- Canisius tied the game with the lone goal of the second period. Hudson Lambert skated behind the Tiger net and fed David Melaragni at the top of the zone, who scored on a long shot past a screened Scarfone with 3:38 on the clock.
- The teams played a scoreless third period, but RIT was whistled for boarding as the horn sounded and started overtime a man down. The Tigers fought off the Canisius man advantage, but went back on the penalty kill 49 seconds later after a hooking penalty. Canisius cycled the puck around to Ryan Miotto, who scored on a slap shot from the left faceoff circle with 1:21 remaining.
