Women’s Basketball beats Clarkson, 78-67

POTSDAM, NY – Senior forward Kaleesha Joseph scored 24 points as the Tigers beat host Clarkson on Friday, 78-67.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead on a layup by Joseph with 9:39 left in the first quarter.
  • The two teams traded leads for a few minutes before two free throws by sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bockelman and a layup by first-year guard Erin DiPaola gave the Tigers a 10-7 lead with 5:52 left in the quarter.
  • Clarkson went on a 17-4 run to end the quarter up 24-14.
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 13-4 run to narrow the Golden Knights lead to 28-27 with 4:51 left.
  • Junior guard Emma Waite hit two free throws to put RIT ahead, 32-31, with 3:43 left in the quarter.
  • RIT maintained a lead until there were 54 seconds left in the second quarter, when Clarkson's Cassidy Dumont hit a three-pointer to tie it, 38-38.
  • After another Dumont three gave the Golden Knights the lead, Joseph hit a layup and made a free throw with two seconds left to give the Tigers the lead going into halftime, 41-39.
  • The Tigers maintained the lead for much of the third quarter, but a layup by Raelin Burns put Clarkson ahead, 54-53, with 1:31 left in the third quarter. The quarter would end with the Tigers trailing, 56-53.
  • A three-pointer by DiPaola with 8:59 left in the fourth put the Tigers ahead again, 58-56. DiPaola would then extend the lead to 60-56 on a layup with 8:22 left.
  • Mariah Benavides scored five straight points to put the Golden Eagles back up, 61-60, with 6:44 left to play.
  • Junior guard Mya Richardson hit a layup with 6:23 left to put the Tigers ahead again, 62-61.
  • The Tigers outscored Clarkson the rest of the way, 16-6, for the 78-67 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Tigers shot 29-of-56 (51.8%) from the floor, including 3-of-11 (27.3%) from beyond the arc.
  • RIT outrebounded Clarkson, 43-34.
  • DiPaola had a career-high 23 points in the victory.
