ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Three RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with Player of the Week recognition, announced Monday, February 27.
Graduate student
Ian Libby was named Baseball Performer of the Week, while first-year
Charlie Slaymaker earned Rookie of the Week accolades. Graduate student
Matthew Funicelli was named the Field Performer of the Week.
Libby hit .625 (10-for-16) with eight RBIs in three games at Gallaudet Bison Baseball Classic, including a historic 7-for-7 performance in Sunday's 29-1 victory over Gallaudet. His performance on Sunday set a program record for hits in a game and fell just short of the program mark in RBIs. He ended the game just a home run away from the cycle.
Slaymaker started his collegiate career by going 3-for-7 with four walks and two RBIs in three games in Washington, D.C. this weekend. He also had a double, triple, and a stolen base.
Funicelli won the weight throw and finished second in the shot put at the Liberty League Indoor Championships last weekend. He broke his own weight throw program record with a PR 17.94m/58' 10.25" which ranks first in the Liberty League and 24th nationally this winter.Â
