HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 18/19 RIT men's hockey game defeated Lake Superior State, 4-2, in the consolation game of the Dartmouth Ledyard Classic, Saturday.
Senior forward
Cody Laskosky, sophomore forward
Tyler Mahan and first-years
Matthew Wilde and
Tyler Fukakusa accounted for the Tiger goals, while junior goaltender
Tommy Scarfone totaled 25 saves to preserve the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT took a 1-0 lead at 6:18 of the first. Fifth-year defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro took a long shot from the point and collected his own rebound at the top the slot for another long attempt redirected by Wilde in the middle of the slot into the back of the net.
- Lake Superior State evened the score with a power-play goal at 15:05 of the first after Dawson Tritt scored on a shot from the point.
- The Tigers retook the lead with 7.5 seconds on the clock. Sophomore forward Simon Isabelle won a defensive-zone faceoff back to the left corner where graduate student defenseman Ryan Nicholson sent a long outlet pass down the left boards to spring Mahan for a one-on-one chance the other way. Mahan took the puck at the top of the Laker zone and tucked a wrist shot under Laker goaltender William Hakansson's glove.
- The Lakers retied the game at 2:29 of the second after Sasha Teleguine finished a three-on-one break off a Tiger neutral zone turnover.
- RIT finished the period with two unanswered goals. Fukakusa put the Tigers back on top at 7:55 after intercepting a Laker pass in the slot and sniping the top-left corner of the net. Laskosky crashed the net three minutes later to finish a feed from graduate student forward Elijah Gonsalves.
GAME NOTES
- Cassaro was named to the Ledyard Classic All-Tournament Team.
- Scarfone won his 41st career game to move into a tie for second in RIT program history (D1-era) with Jared DeMichiel '10. Coupled with Friday's 33-save outing versus Maine, his 1,950 career saves put him 50 way from becoming only the third Tiger goaltender to eclipse 2,000 saves.
- Laskosky notched his 60th career point with his second-period tally.
- Gonsalves' assist was his 80th-career point - tied for 22nd all-time (D1-era) with Kobe Walker '22.
