No. 20 Men's Hockey hosts Mercyhurst, Friday and Saturday, in Atlantic Hockey doubleheader

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT men's hockey team hosts Mercyhurst for an Atlantic Hockey doubleheader this Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (5:05 p.m.) at the Gene Polisseni Center.

The first-place Tigers look to extend a four-game winning streak following a six-point weekend at Army last weekend, while the Lakers split a two-game set at Bowling Green in non-league action.

TIGER TRACKS
  • RIT broke into this week's national rankings at No. 20 in the latest USCHO.com poll after receiving votes the first five weeks of the season.
  • Junior Tommy Scarfone won his second-consecutive Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honor and third in the last four weeks after only allowing one even-strength goal during the Army sweep. He made 34 saves in Friday's 4-2 victory for his 25th career game with at least 30 saves and then made 26 stops in Saturday's 5-3 win, including 15 in the third period, to improve to 6-1 this season.
  • Also tabbed the Atlantic Hockey October Goaltender of the Month, Scarfone entered the week ranked eighth nationally with a .936 save percentage and 17th with a 2.13 goals against average.

  • First-year forward Matthew Wilde notched three goals during the Army series, including his first two in a Tiger sweater during Friday's victory. 
  • Junior forward Carter Wilkie notched a goal and an assist in the opener at Army before scoring his 80th-career point with an assist on Saturday to become the 23rd D1-era Tiger to hit the plateau. He leads the team with 10 points (5G/5A) this season and moved into a tie for 22nd in program history (D1 era) with 80 points on 32 goals and 48 assists to date. Wilkie also entered the week sixth in the country with 107 face-off wins and was tied for fourth with two shorthanded goals.
  • Junior forward Grady Hobbs scored a career-high three points on two goals and an assist to lead RIT on Saturday, while senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro scored his third goal of the season to extend a three-game point streak. All three of his goals this season have been game-winners - tied for the second-highest total in the country this season. 
  • Sophomore forward Simon Isabelle notched his second goal of the season in Saturday's winning effort while sophomore forward Tyler Mahan found the net for the first time this season in Friday's decision.
  • RIT leads Atlantic Hockey with 3.38 goals per game and in scoring margin at +0.88, while sitting third in scoring defense at 2.50 goals per game. Nationally, the Tigers sit 16th in scoring offense, 13th in scoring margin and 17th in scoring defense. 
  • Scarfone moved into a tie for fifth place in program history (D1 era) with his 36th career victory. He also enters the weekend one save shy of becoming only the sixth goaltender with 1,700 saves and is on pace to surpass Louis Menard '09 (1,705) and Shane Madolora '12 (1,727) on the career saves list. 
  • RIT leads Atlantic Hockey with 3.38 goals per game and sits third in scoring defense, only allowing 2.50 goals per game, to rank first with a +0.9 scoring margin.
  • Senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis leads RIT with 17 blocked shots, including three on three occasions, while senior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata is second with 12 blocks, including three against Notre Dame.
  • Graduate-student forward Elijah Gonsalves notched an assist in both Army games after missing the previous four games due to a lower-body injury. He moved up to 27th on the all-time (D1 era) scoring list with 72 points on 27 goals and 45 assists to date.
  • RIT received a national ranking for the second-consecutive season. The Tigers reached as high as No. 18 in the USCHO.com poll last year after not being ranked since 2016.
