CLEVELAND, OHIO – RIT sophomore
Elon Martin finished second at 184 lb. in the Freshman/Sophomore Division to lead the Tigers to a second place finish at the 2023 Bob Del Rosa Ohio Open at Case Western Reserve, Sunday.
Martin beat Ashton Simison with a 17-5 major decision in his opening match, and pinned Adam Lynch at 2:09 in the quarterfinal. He took down Eamon Callahan 10-1 (MD) in the semifinals before losing 9-4 to Jake Jones in the finals.
First-year
Jacob Deysher finished third at 125 lb. in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, beating Zach Lewis with a 20-4 technical fall in Round of 16, and Dorian Hoffman 8-6 in the quarterfinals. He lost to Max Shore in the semifinals and took third with a medical forfeit victory.
Junior
Clay Rankin placed fourth at 149 lb in the Open Division, going 2-2, while sophomore
Zach Swyers (184 lb.) and first years
Bryson Vaughn (141 lb.) and
Jared Lee (149 lb.) each earned fifth-place finishes in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.
