Women's Basketball loses 47-42 at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – RIT sophomore guard Sydney Pearson tallied 13 points in the Tigers 47-42 loss at Skidmore, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First-year guard Ansley Orrell scored four straight points, including a layup that gave RIT a 6-5 lead midway through the first quarter.
  • Becca Horger's jumper with three minutes remaining in the quarter gave the Thoroughbreds an 11-8 lead.
  • First-year guard Abigail Smith tied the game at 11-11 on her three-pointer off an assist from classmate Erin DiPaola.
  • Pearson gave the Tigers a two-point lead on her bucket off a feed from sophomore forward Sonya Shivok early in the second quarter.
  • Skidmore's Kate McCarney hit a three-pointer to give the Thoroughbreds a three-point lead before a Pearson drained a three-pointer with 5:50 remaining to give the Tigers an 18-16 lead.
  • Amelia Medolla gave the Thoroughbreds a 24-18 lead on her three-pointer, but sophomore guard Lila McGuiggin canned a three-pointer with 44 seconds to play to cut the Skidmore lead to 24-23.
  • Horger scored with one second to play to Skidmore a 28-23 halftime lead.
  • Pearson capped off a 6-0 RIT spurt to start the third quarter with her layup to give RIT a 29-28 lead.
  • Medolla scored with 46 seconds to play in the third to give Skidmore a 36-33 lead.
  • Pearson scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the Thoroughbreds lead to 36-35, Cassie Davidson scored off a steal to extend the Skidmore lead to 40-35.
  • Smith scored off an assist from junior guard Emma Waite to cut the Skidmore lead to three points.
  • McCarney gave Skidmore a 45-40 lead on her bucket with 2:02 remaining, but Smith made it a three-point game on her basket with 1:21 to play.
  • Hastings and Sarah Chambers made free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 18-of-61 from the floor, including four three-pointers.
  • RIT out-rebounded Skidmore, 50-45.
  • Smith tallied nine points, while Orrell chipped in eight points.
