Women’s Basketball falls to William Smith, 63-58

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior guard Emma Waite had 14 points and six assists in a 63-58 loss to William Smith on Saturday at Clark Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First-year guard Ansley Orrell put the Tigers ahead early with a three-pointer with 8:50 left in the first quarter. She added another three-pointer 45 seconds later to make it 6-0.
  • The Tigers maintained the lead for the rest of the quarter and led 15-10 after the first.
  • RIT started the second quarter on a 10-4 run over the first five minutes, but William Smith came back by outscoring the Tigers 15-7 the rest of the half. A three-pointer by Waite with seven seconds left ensured RIT retained the lead going into halftime, 32-29.
  • William Smith tied the game, 32-32, on a Molly Walsh three-pointer with 9:15 left in the third quarter, part of a 16-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half to take a 45-36 lead.
  • The Tigers finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to close the gap to 47-43 at the end of the third quarter.
  • RIT retook the lead with 7:57 left in the fourth quarter on a layup by senior forward Kaleesha Joseph to make the score 48-47.
  • William Smith came back and tied the game with 4:46 left on a Brooke Jarvis layup to make it 51-51.
  • Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bockelman hit a three-pointer with 4:30 left in the game to give the Tigers a 54-51 lead.
  • William Smith ended the game on a 12-4 run for the 63-58 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • The Tigers were 22-of-73 (30.1%) from the floor in the game, including 7-of-29 (24.1%) from beyond the arc.
  • The Herons outrebounded the Tigers, 54-41.
  • Bockelman had 13 points with five rebounds, while Joseph had 12 points and nine rebounds.
