ROCHESTER, N. Y. - The RIT women's tennis team beat visiting Daemen, 6-3, in non-conference action at the Midtown Athletic Club, Sunday.
The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie in the first doubles match when sophomore
Jackie Drozd and freshman
Gabby Donohue won 8-6 over Frida Rubio and Kitsa Scime. The Wildcats tied the match with a win at second doubles when sophomore
Abby Murray and junior
Mackenzie Wade fell in second doubles to Christina Stasiuk and Yinett Del Leon, 8-5. Graduate student
Julia Smolowitz and senior
Kirsten Auble gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at third doubles over Mackenzie Schayes and Hannah Pagano, 8-0.
Daemen tied the match, 2-2, after the opening singles match when Donohue fell to unbeaten Stasiuk in second singles with a pair of 6-0 sets. Stasiuk became Daemen's all-time leader in singles wins with the victory over Donohue. The Wildcats then went up 3-2 with a victory in first singles after Drozd fell to Rubio, 7-5, 6-4.
Murray tied the match 3-3 with a fourth singles win over Del Leon, 6-4, 6-3, before Auble put the Tigers ahead for good with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-4 win at third singles over Scime. Senior
Julianne Ho scored the winning fifth point over Pagano in sixth singles with a pair of 6-0 sets. Smolowitz took the last singles match, 7-5, 6-2, over Schayes in fifth singles.
Women's Tennis next hosts Oneonta on Tuesday, April 5 at 4 p.m. at the Gordon Field House in non-conference action.
