ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's tennis team defeated Geneseo, 8-1, in non-conference action at the Gordon Field House, Wednesday.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. In first doubles, sophomore
Jackie Drozd and freshman
Gabby Donohue took an 8-6 win over Geneseo's Alex Galle and Rory Tobin. RIT's second doubles pair of junior
Mackenzie Wade and sophomore
Abby Murray won 8-6 over the Knights' Julianna Schulz and Grace Klomp. Senior
Kirsten Auble and graduate student
Julia Smolowitz took third doubles, 8-4, over Natalia Krol and Kylie Seiler.
The Tigers went ahead 5-0 after the first two singles matches. Murray won a pair of 6-2 sets in fourth singles against Rory Tobin and then RIT's Auble took a pair of 6-1 sets in third singles.
Geneseo made it a 5-1 match after Natalia Krol bested RIT's Drozd, 6-3, 6-1, in first singles. The Tigers won the remaining three singles matches beginning with Donohue's three-set win that began with a 6-1 loss. The freshman regrouped with 6-2 and 10-5 set wins to take the match over Alex Galle in second singles. Smolowitz won 6-2, 6-1, over Grace Klomp in fifth singles, and then senior
Julianne Ho got the final win over Kylie Seiler, 6-2, 6-0, in sixth singles.
Women's Tennis next hosts Vassar in Liberty League action on Saturday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the Midtown Athletic Club.
