Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey falls to Sacred Heart, 3-1, in AHA Quarterfinal Game 2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro scored the lone Tiger goal in a 3-1 setback to visiting Sacred Heart in Game 2 of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals, Saturday, at the Gene Polisseni Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sacred Heart scored the only goal of the first half after Dante Palecco took an outlet pass from Patrick Dawson in the neutral zone and beat the Tiger defense back for a shot over freshman goaltender Tommy Scarfone's glove.
  • The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead with a pair of goals in just over a minute span. Scarfone blockered down a shot by Braeden Tuck from the left faceoff circle, but Adam Tisdale tipped home a short rebound in front with 12:39 on the clock. Logan Britt later sent a long pass back down the left boards off a Tiger clear to Neil Shea, who centered a pass to Tuck for a shot under Scarfone's glove with 11:28 left in the period.
  • RIT got on the board with 7:37 left in the second following a Sacred Heart interference penalty. Freshman forward Tanner Andrew dug a puck off the left boards to senior forward Nick Bruce, who sent a pass to the top of the right face-off circle for a one-timer by Cassaro under the crossbar.
GAME NOTES
  • Sacred Heart finished with a 26-18 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Scarfone totaled 23 saves after tying a career-high with 39 stops to preserve Friday night's 1-0 OT win. Sacred Heart goaltender Justin Robbins made 17 stops after making 25 on Friday.

The Tigers returned the favor on the road in the 2019 quarterfinals, falling, 9-4, in the opener, before bouncing back with 7-3 and 3-1 victories to advance to the semis. RIT defeated Sacred Heart, 6-1, in the 2010 championship game.
