Matt Caggiano scored 18 points to lead RIT (7-10, 5-6 Liberty League) to an 87-80 win over Clarkson (5-14, 2-10 Liberty League) Friday. Caggiano scored 15 of his 18 points in the first half, while freshman
Brock Bowen tallied 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT led 39-36 at halftime, shooting 15-of-38 from the floor.
- Clarkson's Chris Hulbert gave the Golden Knights a 15-5 lead on his bucket early in the half.
- Senior Michael Young scored with 9:47 to play to give the Tigers a 23-21 lead.
- Caggiano gave RIT a 34-28 on his three-pointer with 2:32 to play in the half.
- Bowen led RIT with 12 first-half points on 4-of-7 shooting, while freshman Andrew Fox tallied eight points off the bench.
- Clarkson's Teddy Fravel gave Clarkson a 43-41 lead on his layup early in the second half.
- Hulbert gave the Golden Knights a 46-43 lead on his jumper with 17:15 remaining.
- Young scored off an assist from Ocorr with 13:33 to play to give RIT a 52-48 lead.
- Caggiano drained two straight three-pointers, giving the Tigers a 66-59 lead on his three with 9:21 to play.
- Young converted a pair of free throws with 1:05 to play that gave RIT an 81-73 lead.
- Gearhart cut the RIT lead to 82-80 on his bucket with 27 seconds to play.
- Free throws from Caggiano, Ocorr and Bowen sealed the win for RIT.
