Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – RIT senior third baseman
Patrick Blackall finished 4-for-5 including a homerun with three runs scored and four RBI, to lead RIT over host Gallaudet, 13-9, in the team's second game of the Bison Classic, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Blackall homered in the third inning, scoring sophomore catcher John Bagley for a 2-0 lead, before the Bison would add two of their own to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
- A five-run fourth inning put the Tigers ahead 7-2. Three doubles produced four runs starting with Bagley, who brought home sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig and junior right fielder Nic Stagnitta. Senior first baseman Ian Libby's double scored Bagley, and Blackall's brought home Libby. A Stagnitta single scored Blackall for the team's seventh run.
- The Bison cut the deficit to a pair of runs after a three-run fifth inning at 7-5 and then added four more in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead.
- RIT retook the lead at 12-9 after a five-run eighth inning. Blackall's second double of the game scored Bagley, before senior left fielder Chris Reilly's sacrifice fly brought home Libby to tie the contest at 9-9. Blackall gave the Tigers the lead for good on a passed ball and senior centerfielder Will Porter's single scored sophomore designated hitter Maxx Countryman.
- The Tigers added an insurance run in the ninth after Countryman's sac fly scored Libby.
- RIT potted 14 hits on the day with Libby (two doubles), Stagnitta and Bagley registering multi-hit performances with Blackall. Bagley also finished with two RBI.
- The Tigers used four pitchers on the day. Senior right-hander Jon Opalewski recorded his first win of the season after the starter fanned nine and allowed four hits and five runs with one walk. Freshman Jack Plesniarski and senior Matt Vitro split an inning of work, while senior Reagan Farley earned a save in allowing three hits with two strikeouts in the game's final three innings.
