ERIE, Pa. – RIT freshmen forwards
Tanner Andrew and
Grady Hobbs each scored a goal, but it was host Mercyhurst taking a 4-2 victory in Atlantic Hockey action, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mercyhurst opened the scoring 16:33 left in the first period at the tail end of an RIT change. Rylee St. Onge finished a rush with a one-timer over Tiger freshman goaltender Tommy Scarfone's glove from the right face-off circle.
- Mercyhurst tallied twice in the second. Carson Briere scored with 17:24 on the clock before Cade Townend later found the net with under 10 seconds remaining in the period for a 3-0 lead.
- St. Onge scored his second of the game to push Mercyhurst to a 4-0 lead with 16:37 left in the third period.
- Andrew roofed a shot from the slot to put RIT on the board with 15:14 left in regulation. Hobbs later cleaned up a loose puck in a crowd in front of the Laker goal with 48 seconds on the clock.
GAME NOTES
- Andrew's goal was his first in a Tiger uniform.
- RIT out-shot Mercyhurst, 44-34, but Laker goaltender Kyle McClellan totaled 42 saves, including 18 in the first period, to earn his second straight win over the Tigers. He also made 34 saves in Friday's 1-0 shutout.
- The Tigers' finished with their most shots on goal since totaling 40 in the 5-4 victory at Princeton (Nov. 26)
- Scarfone stopped 30 shots for his fourth appearance of the season with at least 30 saves.
- RIT senior defenseman Dan Willett tied an Atlantic Hockey record with his 158th game played, moving atop the list with Mercyhurst's Tyler Shiplo (2011-15) and Canisius' Ben Danford (2010-14). Senior forward Jake Hamacher also moved into fourth place in league history with his 157th appearance.

RIT plays a home-and-home series with Atlantic Hockey-rival Niagara next week, hitting the road for a 7:05 p.m. face-off on Friday (Feb. 18), before returning to the Gene Polisseni Center for the regular-season home finale on Saturday (Feb. 19) at 7:05 p.m.
