ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Six RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with Player of the Week recognition, announced Monday, December 5.
Junior
Emma Waite was the Liberty League Women's Basketball Performer of the Week, while first-year swimmer
Lorelei Robinson earned Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
On the men's side, graduate student
Matthew Funicelli garnered Men's Field Performer of the Week honors. Senior
Brendan Kapp and sophomore diver
Gellert Kish earned their third swimmer and diver of the week honor, and first-year
Miles Lim won was named the rookie of the week for the fourth time.
Waite led RIT to a pair of conference wins over Bard and RPI. The junior forward averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals last week, shooting 48.1 percent from the floor. Waite tallied 19 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals in the Tigers 75-33 win over Bard, Friday. She scored 19 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals in RIT's 73-62 win over Bard, Saturday.
Robinson won a pair of individual events to help RIT to a first place finish at the Don Richards Invitational, last weekend. The first-year swimmer won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:19.64 and the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:36.50).
Funicelli posted the nation's third-best shot put mark (15.64m/51' 3.75") with his runner-up finish at the Houghton December Classic, Friday. He also finished second in the weight throw (16.48m/54' 1") with the nation's 13th-best mark.
Kapp won three individual events and swam a leg in the winning 400 medley relay to lead No. 18 RIT to a first place finish at the Don Richards Invitational, last weekend. Kapp won the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.15 which is a Judson Pool and Liberty League record and is the third-fastest time in Division III this season. He won the 100 breaststroke in a Judson Pool-record time of 56.49, and won the 200 IM in a time of 1:53.80.
Kish finished first in the 1-meter diving competition and second in the 3-meter competition to help No. 18 RIT to a first place finish at the Don Richards Invitational, last weekend. He won the 1-meter competition with a score of 487 points and finished second in the 3-meter competition with a score of 469.25.
Lim won two individual events to help No. 18 RIT to a first place finish at the Don Richards Invitational, last weekend. Lim won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.81, and finished first in the 200 butterfly in a Judson Pool-record time of 1:52.58.
