ALFRED, N.Y. – RIT sophomore guard
Brock Bowen scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Tigers to a 90-79 win at Alfred State in the season-opener, Tuesday.
Bowen shot 7-of-8 from beyond the arc, finishing with four rebounds and three assists. Junior guard
Matt Caggiano scored 17 points and led the Tigers with six assists, while senior forward
Kevin Ryan and sophomore center
Andrew Fox each tallied 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior guard Mark Osime capped off an 11-0 Tigers run on a jumper with 12:59 to play in the first half to give the Tigers a 15-5 lead.
- Bowen drained a three-pointer with 7:22 remaining to extend the Tigers a 30-18 lead, their largest of the half.
- Alfred State's Cody Schneider scored with 3:45 to play, capping off a 13-4 Pioneers run that cut the Tigers lead to three points.
- RIT outscored the Pioneers 12-5 over the final three minutes of the opening half to lead 46-36.
- Caggiano scored five of the Tigers first seven points of the second half, including an old-fashioned three-point play, to extend RIT's lead to 53-38. He scored again with 14:01 to play that extended the RIT lead to 18 points.
- Bowen knocked down a three-pointer with 12:17 remaining to give the Tigers a 19-point lead.
- Basheem Wilkerson capped off a 12-0 Alfred State run on his jumper with 53-seconds to play that cut the RIT lead to 84-77.
- Caggiano, Ryan and senior guard Keegan Ocorr each made key free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win for the Tigers.
GAME NOTES
- RIT shot 54.1 percent from the floor on 33-of-61 shooting, including 11-of-18 from beyond the arc.
- The Tigers outscored Alfred State 38-28 in the paint, and held a 39-26 rebounding advantage.
- RIT got 22 points off the bench led by junior forward Kenny Wilburn who finished with 10 points.
