ROCHESTER, NY – RIT's Women's Rowing team raised over $7,000 in the Erg for RESTORE ergathon earlier this month.
In an ergathon, athletes row specific distances on rowing machines (ergs) while asking for contributors to sponsor them. The event on Friday, Nov. 18, raised money for
RESTORE, an organization that supports and advocates for victims of sexual assault and their loved ones in Rochester and surrounding areas.
While initially the team had a goal of raising $2,000, the team ended up rowing 540,200 meters (over 335 miles) and more than tripled their goal.
"I'm really proud of everyone for exceeding our goals. There was a lot of good energy in the room because we all felt like we were doing it for a really good cause. It brought us together as a team," said sophomore
Arden Conybear.
The ergathon was organized by the Tigers' SAAC reps, Conybear and fellow sophomores
Mia Leone and
Jenna Olivieri.
"We had a great turnout with everyone putting all their effort into rowing their goal meters. We were able to raise a lot of money for RESTORE," said Leone.
