No. 20 Men's Hockey falls, 5-0, to Princeton

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 20 RIT men's hockey team was shutout by visiting Princeton, 5-0, Saturday.
 
The Tigers' split their weekend doubleheader after RIT won Friday's opener, 5-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, Princeton got on the board 33 seconds into the second period and again later with 3:12 on the clock.
  • The visiting Tigers took a 3-0 lead 4:02 into the third period and then added a power-play goal with 9:20 left in regulation before tacking on one more goal 1:11 later. 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT had an eight-game winning streak halted in the loss – tied for the second longest during the Division I era.
  • RIT totaled 11 penalties and 41 minutes of penalty time, but finished 7-of-8 on the penalty kill.
  • RIT junior goaltender Kolby Matthews totaled a season-high 32 saves in his third start of the season.
  • RIT was shutout for the first time since falling 1-0 at Air Force in the regular season finale last year (Feb. 26).
  • RIT allowed a season-high five goals for the second time this year, also yielding five to visiting Union in an 8-5 victory (Oct. 15).
  • Princeton finished with a 37-23 shot advantage after also out-shooting RIT, 36-20, on Friday.
  • Graduate student defenseman Spencer Berry blocked a team-high three shots after knocking down seven in Friday's win.
  • Sophomore forward Carter Wilkie won a season-high 18-of-29 faceoffs. 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT plays an Atlantic Hockey home-and-home series with Canisius next Friday and Saturday (Dec. 2-3). The Tigers host the Golden Griffins for a 7:05 p.m. start on Friday before heading to Buffalo for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff on Saturday.
