Men's Basketball opens Brodie Tournament with 77-71 win against Canton

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT senior forward Kevin Ryan scored 16 points as the Tigers opened the Harold J. Brodie Tournament with a 77-71 victory against SUNY Canton.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers got on the board quickly: senior guard Keegan Ocorr got it to sophomore guard Brock Bowen for a three-pointer just nine seconds into the game.
  • Ryan paced RIT early, scoring five of the Tigers' first 10 points as they pulled ahead to a 10-3 lead after five minutes.
  • Canton then went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 10 before Ocorr hit a three with 12:51 left in the first to put RIT ahead, 13-10.
  • The Kangaroos grabbed the lead with 8:21 left in the first half on an Eli Larson layup, 19-18.
  • Canton increased its lead to five late in the first half, 33-28.
  • RIT narrowed the lead to one on a thunderous dunk by junior forward Kenny Wilburn with 31 seconds left in the half, but a late layup by Canton's Quran Dubois ended the half, 36-33.
  • The Tigers retook the lead on a three-pointer by junior guard Mark Osime early in the second half, but Canton retook it shortly after with 18 minutes left with a three of their own to make it 41-40.
  • RIT then went on a 19-9 run to pull ahead to a 59-50 lead with 12:11 left, with Ryan leading the way with nine points in the span
  • Osime hit a three with 9:05 left to extend the Tigers lead to 13, 67-54.
  • The Tigers maintained a lead the rest of the way for a 77-71 win.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 51.9 from the floor on 28-of-54 shooting.
  • The Tigers went 9-of-15 from beyond the arc and 12-of-24 from the free throw line.
  • The Tigers outrebounded Canton, 38-28.
  • Wilburn had 13 points and led the Tigers with eight rebounds.
